Being confronted by Ghaltric and his unnamed companion in the basement of the Golden Dragon Inn, Áinfean put Winter behind her, then pulled out her Dragonseye Acorn and attacked with a lightning bolt, moving and using her Tempestuous Magic to block their exit up the stairs. The battle quickly concluded but cooked shifter and human apparently is highly fragrant. Áinfean tried to disguise Winter as the human but the commotion was already heading their way so instead she loaded her into the dumbwaiter and hoisted her to story 2. Unfortunately after climbing after her someone checked the dumbwaiter just in time to see Áinfean climbing out. So instead of walking out the front door Áinfean grabbed Winter and thunderstepped them out of the building… blowing out every window on the second story, but escaping.
Meanwhile Seigmeyer was waiting patiently at the House Jorasco check in when he hears the windows burst out of the Golden Dragon Inn. Correctly assuming that maybe he should be worried he heads in that direction. However after entering an alleyway his path is blocked by a pair of warforged, and then another pair show up behind him. The warforged attack and Seigmeyer starts to defend himself, but learns while battling that they are bitter about the Last War and the number of warforged killed by members of the Silver Flame. Seigmeyer becomes determined not to continue hostilities from a conflict he can't remember and refuses to fight further. Taking a beating while talking to them. Eventually healing the leader while being still hit. Confused and emotionally torn, the warforged eventually leave, unsure what to make of this paladin whose mercy is so great that even when attacked he will heal instead of striking back.
Thakharad is laying in a pile of garbage when a voice speaks to him. Unlike the other voices this one compels him to not give in, and with it's assistance he regains some control of his broken mind. Coming too he has a rod of order, and a sense that much of what he has seen lately was not real. He leaves and completely changes his appearance, shaving his beard, cutting his hair, and getting clothes that blend in. Then begins to make his way back to his friends.
At the inn Áinfean gets Winter into a bed, and reluctantly questions her to be sure she is truly Winter. After confirming her belief that this is the true Winter, Áinfean resolves to take care of the false one. Hiding Winter in her room disguised as an attractive man and hiring some stable boys to keep an eye out Áinfean runs into Seigmeyer and fills him in on her plan. To remove the false Winter and reinstate the true one, without running afoul of the hired help, Itharel.
Seigmeyer, injured a little himself, takes a rest and keeps watch. Áinfean goes to purchase a dress for her date with Felix so she can get him to throw that ball at the end of the week.
The rest of the party (including imposter Winter) arrives back at the inn, and is in the common room wondering where everyone else is and why everyone disappeared from the stake out mission. Áinfean arrives closely followed by Thakharad who looks so different that he's difficult to recognize even for those who know him. Thakharad tells the party he hasn't been himself lately, and that he has killed someone. The party relocates to a private room. Thakharad tells the full story of how Winter told him to steal a manifest from the House Orien Lightning Rail Station, and that through a chase a guard died. He now realizes the Winter he saw was hallucination Winter, and this is what prompted him to check if she was real downstairs. The party is somber and imposter Winter asks if he is fit to keep operating, then assigns Itharel to be his sanity check.
Imposter Winter orders everyone to share information and stratigize. Áinfean mentions that Felix should be holding a ball that perhaps the Ir'Haldrons will attend, and imposter Winter agress that would give them an opportunity to break in to the townhouse. Áinfean asks for imposter Winter's help preparing for the opera and Winter agrees and suggests her room. Áinfean, not wanting imposter Winter to find real Winter, counters that she could really use a bath.
When they arrive at the bathing room imposter Winter locks the door and casts silence. Áinfean attacks. Seigmeyer excuses himself to use the outhouse but then hurries towards the bathing room, where he has cast Zone of Truth. Imposter Winter has revealed herself to be Isa Weeds, who the group rescued in the asylum, but in spite of taking some damage she is now holding Áinfean underwater in the tub. Seigmeyer, seeing the door knocked off the hinge and flames charges in and knocks imposter Winter off. Áinfean kills her, leaving the final question she asked, "who do you work for?" unanswered. As the imposter dies it reverts to a Doppleganger.
Áinfean tries to quickly get upstairs to get real Winter and make the switch. But somehow from upstairs and across the inn, Itharel has heard what's happening and comes downstairs to see the Doppleganger. He takes his fee from the corpse.
